Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Learning from home is challenging for all children, but it can be exceptionally challenging for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Remote Learning and additional support for pupils with particular needs

Your child’s class teacher will set daily lessons and work on Seesaw. Whilst we know remote learning does not replace teaching in classrooms, our aim is to ensure provision stays as similar as possible to that delivered in school

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with SEND, may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

Specialist Equipment

If your child requires any specialist equipment which is normally used in school, Miss Rennison, the school SENDCO, will contact you to arrange for a home loan agreement. Please contact Miss Rennison if you think you require additional equipment which has not been identified.

Personalised Learning

Just as in school, pupils with SEND will access tailored learning appropriate to their needs and allowing independent learning, where possible. If you have any concerns about the provision for your child with SEND, please contact their class teacher or Miss Rennison.

Interventions

Where possible, we are moving interventions online. Your child’s class teacher will set intervention sessions on Seesaw or your child will be sent log in details for online interventions. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher or Miss Rennison

Individual Support

Every child is different. Some children, because of their SEND needs, may find it extremely challenging to sit and engage in online learning for the allocated hours each day. Please speak to Miss Rennison about a personalised, tailored approach to supporting your child e.g. a visual timetable, guidance on supporting attention and concentration etc.

Statutory assessments and external agencies

If your child is undergoing assessment for an EHCP, this will continue during wider school closures.

If your child is due to be observed or complete work with an external agency in school, this may be postponed or moved to a virtual appointment. Please contact the service directly if you have any questions or contact Miss Rennison in school.
