Invest In Play

Park End Primary School are incredibly lucky to be working in partnership with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to deliver Invest In Play, a programme for parents to support children with their behaviour at home in school.

Our lead trainer is Mr Kumar. He delivers courses in partnership with professionals from CAMHS.

What is Invest In Play?

Invest In Play is a 12 session course for parents and carers of children who are 2-12 years. The sessions take place in small groups led by Mr Kumar from Park End Primary and a CAMHs clinician.

The course has been shown to build children’s social competence, self-confidence and emotion regulation skills and help parents respond to common childhood issues such as whining and not listening. It also helps children struggling with low self-esteem, behavioural difficulties, ADHD and Autism.

The goal is to prevent and treat young children’s behaviour problems with early intervention and give parents the tools to manage their child’s behaviour.

Course goals:
  • Use play and positive attention to strengthen your relationship with you child and create greater trust between you.
  • Support your child’s learning, emotional and social skills.
  • Set caring boundaries that create a predictable and secure framework for your child’s well-being and development.
  • Regulate strong emotions – your own as well as your child’s

Does your child show challenging behaviour at home or in school?

Would you commit to a 12 week course, with weekly sessions?

Are you ready to tackle your child’s challenging behaviours?

Do you worry your child shows signs of ADHD or autism?

If the answer is yes to any of the questions above, please speak to Mr Kumar to find out more about how Invest In Play could benefit you.

Parent and Carer Testimonial

Invest In Play Programme 2025

Jacy & Lisa Charville

We both joined the 13 week program unsure what to expect. The first few weeks were daunting as it was a group setting and unfamiliar territory. However we soon settled in due to the friendliness and support from not only the group facilitators but the other parents too.

We found listening to other people’s opinions and situations helpful and discussing ours too.

The program enabled us to take a deeper look at our parenting not only individually but as a team too. Taking part in weekly discussions, activities and self reflection encouraged us to discuss things in a more positive way with each other.

The ‘Red Brick – Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviour (TFB)’ was extremely useful to us as a family. This is currently used in our daily lives in all areas, not just parenting.

Throughout the course we learned to’process’ better and the tools helped us to ensure our son does the same. Self regulation and ‘pause to calm’ are big factors in our house and the program has equipped us with the knowledge and skills to make sure this is enabled.

We’ve learnt to ‘evolve’ our thinking around parenting styles and tailor play/activities etc to our son’s needs.

We both set goals at the start of the programme and we both achieved this together. This has boosted moral and confidence for both of us.

We highly recommend taking part in the Invest In Play program, to parents/caregivers who think their children could benefit.

If you only take one thing away from it, then it’s one thing more than you had before.

Parenting isn’t easy. This programme will support and encourage you to do your best and remind you that you’re not alone.

We would like to thank the facilitators for giving us the opportunity to take part, as well as the support, knowledge, honesty and kindness we received from them.
